Melyssa Ford || Before her there were none
Monday, January 4, 2010 | 2:14 PM

Said to be “the original urban supermodel,” Melyssa Savannah Ford is one of the most recognized brand names of the urban modeling industry. From video girl, to co-hosting BET specials, to modeling for Applebottom, Melyssa Ford has almost done it all. In an interview with J'Adore Magazine, Ford says, “I take the shininess off of the business. Everything has changed,” Ford clarifies, further emphasizing that the industry is now “oversaturated with too many girls wanting to do the same thing,” which make the opportunities for success “really slim to none.” Ford goes into details with her experiences being a video girl on and off the camera. With the many misconceptions thrown Ford's way, she clears the air during this interview explaining her position and how she really felt about the things that were going on. “I take the shininess off of the business. Everything has changed,” Ford clarifies, further emphasizing that the industry is now “oversaturated with too many girls wanting to do the same thing,” which make the opportunities for success “really slim to none.”

There was so much to this interview, but the most powerful piece ILLegal Xpressions could quote was: Despite the negativity, Ford, an advocate helping others, seeks to help fellow women of color come into their own and has recently taken further steps to jumpstart her non-profit, LESS is More. LESS, an acronym for Literacy through Education, Etiquette through Example, Strength through Perseverance, and Self through Confidence, was conjured up in a dream. “LESS is More is something I’m placing a lot of effort toward,” Ford articulates with a subtle rise of enthusiasm in her tone as she explains the significance of the foundation. “Female empowerment is a passion of mine and something we need more of.”

Here at ILLegal Xpressions, we try to think outside the box, and not only hit you with information you may have seen on every other blog, but slap you with a whole bunch of random stuff in the process. From music, to clothes, to the arts, ILLegal Xpressions will more then likely cover everything you could possibly think of. This is no MediaTakeout.com or Necole Bitchie, so if that's what you're looking for, you're in the wrong place. This blog strives for originality & the point of a blog is to blog about what you want, & what interests you. What would be the point of having identical blogs? Launching in 2009, ILLegal Xpressions entered the blogging game just like every other blog out there. ILLegal Xpressions had its ups & downs, but for 2010 we're going to make sure we last past the hype of every other beginning blog; you READY?
